ABOUT
Zach's parents bought an upright piano when he was 8 years old, and decided that he should take lessons. A stubborn child, Zach did not want to play the piano and wasn't drawn to the keyboard. After his first lesson, however, he fell in love with the piano and nearly instantly with the classical music that his teacher played for him. At age 10, Zach began composing small pieces for the piano. He would turn the lights off and write to candlelight, pretending he was Beethoven. His childhood excitement of musical discovery has lasted into adulthood.
Zach continued his musical studies through his teenage years, giving recitals throughout grade school. He then moved to North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, with a major in piano performance, and a minor in composition.
In the years following his education at UNCSA, Zach has performed in numerous concerts as a solo artist and accompanist for the Virginia Blue Ridge Music Festival, written dozens of arrangements for the online sheet music company, Sheet Music Plus, and has performed original and classical solo and chamber works in the UK, The Netherlands, and Japan. Zach is also a composer for Miles of Music, a music production and licensing company based in Israel. His music has been used for various media in the US, Europe, and Asia.
in 2013, Zach won first place in the classical category at the International Whistlers Convention, a competition, concert, and gathering of the world's finest whistlers, with participants traveling from 25 countries. The following year, Zach released "Pieces of Night", the first ever collection of chamber pieces written with whistling as a primary instrument, and premiered his works in Yokohama, Japan, and also performing them at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, UK.
Along with his busy schedule of composing, arranging, and solo performances, Zach arranges music and plays piano in the NC-based jazz trio, Stanley Standard and teaches piano and composition in Mount Airy, NC.
